Where we are...
So you may have noticed the lack of Jacobs books floating around your house.
We've moved from the Jacobs text into our Pre-Algebra Review Unit. We do this to get ready to return to the Jacobs text for Chapter 3--on Functions and Graphing. The Pre-Algebra review unit brings the kids back up to speed to where we left off algebraically last year: the beginning of graphing linear equations. The next few weeks/months is about nailing down equations and graphing so that come time in the fall to enter Algebra, they can hit the ground running.
One great thing about this unit is that they've done most of it all before and it still lives somewhere in their heads. This means we can move very quickly. Ask them--we've done in 4 days what it took months to do last year :) Now that's cognitive development! You should know that I'm working them hard, in class and out. And they're doing very well!

Today we checked #8 and worked some of them out on the board. We started #9 (expressions & equations). NO HW TODAY. But we will tomorrow.

today we talked about the OC Carnival and filled out a reflection sheet. To view the pictures, ask your parents for the password. We also started our pre-al (not chapter 5), and briefly reviewed Order of Operations and Exponents.
Homework: Make a number four (Exponents Continued) and on write the squares of 1-20 and the Cubes of 1-10.

No Posts in Awhile!
There haven't been many posts to the blog recently and I wanted to keep you informed!
We've finished up Chapter 8 and we have spent the past week planning "The OC Carnival" -- The OC stands for some kind of joke that I honestly can't remember!
It was today and it went fabulously. We raised a lot of money for Toni's kids in Africa. We had three games to choose from: roulette, craps and blackjack and we also held a raffle for everyone in school -- they didn't even have to do anything, they were already entered!
I'm about to get some pictures up online so be on the lookout!
